My Memories in Okinawa

Mizuki Yaegashi

September 2nd to 5th 2012, we had a school trip to Okinawa. Before this trip, I had never been there. During these days, I learned so many things with my friends. I will never forget this trip.

Before this trip, I didn't want to go to Gama and learn about World War
, which took place in Okinawa. Because I thought that I had already learned about the war. As I listened to the speech, told by a woman who experienced the war as a Himeyuri Gakuto, my notion and image were completely turned. I was very sorry not to have thought about war seriously. The speech was vivid and we could picture the moment she told. Of course, coming to Gama left me a heavy impression. I prayed for the souls of the dead. Though it was silent and dark, I felt something to remember.

We mustn't repeat what happened on the ground of Okinawa.Someday, in the future, there will be nobody who will have experienced the war in Japan anymore. But the fact that many people fell victim to the war will never change. I think that young people like me should learn and understand about war. Then we have to tell other people about the preciousness of people.

This trip made me think about what I should do for Japan or other countries as a Japanese. What I learned also become one of my treasure.

My Memories in Okinawa

I went to Okinawa by plane. This was the first time I flew. I was excited! But I felt nauseated.

Okinawa has many interesting places! For example, Shurijo, Pinapple Park, Ryukyu Village and so on. I will introduce the three things I enjoyed the most.

First is the Tyuraumi Aquarium. There are a lot of creatures of the sea. I saw various life forms. I saw a manta ray that looked angry. Seeing that, I felt sad. But after that, I saw another manta ray that looked happy. Seeing that, I felt happy, too. I love manta rays. Manta Rays are so cute. Apart from manta rays there were many other creatures, too. There were fish called ojisan. They don’t look like ojisan. Then, why are they called ojisan? I’m sorry, I don’t remember the reason…

Second is the Eisa. Eisa is a dance in Okinawa. We saw it in our hotel. Seeing that, I was very surprised. The dancers were dancing with a heavy drum. They were spinning around so easily. I had a good time.

Third is the town we visited Okinawa. There were red-roof houses. They were so beautiful. Each house had a pair of seasars. There were a variety of seasars. They were all cute. There were many rare plants. I saw many hibiscuses. Sadly I don’t know the name of the other plants I saw. But they all looks very interesting. I was excited.

As you can see, Okinawa is fascinating! I had a good time in Okinawa. I want to go to Okinawa again.
